Energy Wastage/Consumption Reduction
Using retro-fit technologies, you can make a significant impact on cost. Getting employees to turn lights off
is laudable but not controllable. The answer: install controls which operate invisibly. Some examples:
• Physical control systems - high quality Windows Management software; creating simple and effective ways
to automate Desktop and Server Management
• Motor controls - used on fridges, freezers, air con, compressors. Installed at a couple of Defra labs for
testing and already showing their mettle.
JDWetherspoon test indicates annual savings across their entire 700 site estate of about 15-20% of
TOTAL electricity, equating to a large seven figure sum - Payback 10 months.
• Boiler controls - makes wet heating systems work about 25%+ more efficiently - payback about 8 months.
• Lighting - voltage reduction: takes about 25% of electricity out of the system and allows you to harvest
the light (motion controls, light sensors), saving even more. Being rolled out by IKEA across Europe.
• Lighting - conversions/ replacements: changing fittings to hi-frequency. Better light quality, less electricity
(up to 75% saving in energy cost)
• Water - loos, cisterns, showers, wash basins, urinals. Added benefit: less energy required to heat water.
• Heating - alternative to storage heaters. More efficient by 60-80%
• Monitoring - used by PWC, Nestle, Siemens, BMW & many others in Germany. Has not saved less than 11% on any installation.
